JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
* As an experienced professional engineer, engages in the engineering of electrical utility systems and develops specialized expertise in at least one electrical utility engineering discipline such as: system planning, operational planning, maintenance engineering, design engineering, distribution engineering or project engineering.
* Investigates, analyzes and solves a variety of engineering problems, many of which are of a more challenging and unusual nature.
* Develops innovative engineering techniques, devises new approaches and applies existing criteria in novel ways.
* Manages projects of some complexity including planning and managing resources and coordinating work to ensure that commitments are met.
* Represents the engineering function in the public consultation process. May chair meetings to address engineering problems.
* Assigns work and gives instructions, advice and technical guidance to other engineers and technical support staff.
* Reviews work of the team and of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and adherence to accepted engineering practice.
* Imparts engineering knowledge and encourages the professional development of engineers.
* Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues in order to determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others and resolve issues of concern.
* Works under general direction, with work assigned in terms of broadly defined objectives and budget limitations. Advice of manager is sought in critical areas which impact the work of others. Completed work is accepted as accurate, with overall plans and recommendations reviewed for feasibility, soundness of judgment and achievement of objectives.
Qualifications:
* Electrical engineering degree in a relevant discipline. Ongoing development such as self-study, attendance at technical and administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies.
* Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of British Columbia.
* Eight+ (8) years’ experience in a relevant engineering field.
* Excellent knowledge in power systems analysis, modeling techniques, and good understanding of transmission reliability criteria in planning and operation horizons will be an asset.
* Proficiency in power system simulation software is also an asset.
* A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Class 5 Driver’s License: In good standing.

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
