We are seeking a Construction Inspector to work on land development and/or municipal projects out of our Barrie office.
The construction inspector is responsible for inspection of the construction of roads, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, watermain, curb and gutter, sidewalks, stormwater management facilities and grading works to ensure compliance with design drawings, specifications and municipal/provincial standards. Work will also include liaison with contractors, preparing field inspection reports, tracking construction quantities, and assistance with contract administration duties including conducting site meetings and preparing meeting minutes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspect construction activities to ensure compliance with design drawings, specifications and municipal/provincial standards
- Check the contractor’s grade and alignment
- Confirm materials supplied by the contractor are in conformance with applicable standards
- Advise the contractor of deficient work and/or corrective action required through direction from the Project Manager or Manager
- Record equipment and labour force onsite on a daily basis
- Coordinate sub-consultants for specialty inspections, material testing, etc. as required
- Conduct site meetings and prepare meeting minutes
- Collect “for record” information as the work proceeds
- Maintain a field diary to record daily activity on the site and prepare field inspection reports
- Assist the Project Manager in preparing requests for quotation, contract change orders and proper invoices
- Confirm quantities of work completed for the purposes of determining payment to the contractor
- Review documentation provided by the contractor, and be aware of special requirements, including, but not limited to: traffic control plans, spills contingency plans, construction staging plans, excess fill management plans, shop drawings, schedules, health and safety plans, temporary watermain plans, sewage by-pass plans and infrastructure commissioning plans
Key Position Requirements
- A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant construction inspection experience
- C.E.T. certification or eligibility would be an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of contract drawings, tender documents and design and construction standards
- Field experience working around heavy equipment
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and work independently under minimal supervision
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
