A few doors east of our full-serve Terroni restaurant on Queen West, Sud Forno is the perfect option to grab a bite on the go, with a daily selection of sliced pizza, prepared sandwiches and salads along with pastries and gelato. Using traditional ingredients and methods, our breads are made from high quality grains and flours that we import from a third-generation family run mill in the Marche region. We use our own mother yeast, born by mixing flour with water, left to acidify at high temperatures to obtain a natural fermentation all of which brings you finished loaves so traditional they are “unlike any we’ve ever tasted outside of Italy.”

 

We are proud to be one of the best Italian bakeries in Toronto, and we are currently looking for an experienced Chef to join our team of professionals.

 

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES:

 

In this position you will be responsible for:

 

·         Planning and directing food preparation and cooking activities of the restaurant

·         Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards

·         Assist in the creation of new recipes

·         Evaluate all food requirements and maintain standard levels

·         Maintain a safe, clean kitchen along with maintaining inventory of food, supplies and equipment

·         Preparing and cooking food in accordance with traditional Italian baking and pastry techniques using the best Italian ingredients available

·         Monitor and ensure exact measurement of all ingredients for all food items

·         Ensure all ingredients adhere to food safety standards

·         Consulting with clients regarding special orders

·         Modifying items on the menu for specific allergies such as gluten and nuts

·         Supervise and instruct cooks and other kitchen staff

·         May assist with the recruitment and hiring of staff as required

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

Secondary school diploma
At least 2 years of experience as a Chef specializing in Italian cuisine
·         Comprehensive knowledge of authentic Italian recipes, ingredients, and preparation methods

·         Culinary/cooking trade certifications or diplomas are an asset

Safe food handling certificates, WHMIS, and/or CPR certifications are an asset
COMPENSATION & CONDITIONS:

 

·         Permanent, full-time position

·         $20.00 per hour with applicable overtime pay after 44 hours of work per week

·         37.5 hours of work per week

·         Extended health and dental benefits
